Adult Education Students 18 years of age or older:
The Academic Skills Center at the Simi Valley Adult School provides students with the opportunity to progress at their own rate while concentrating on one or two subjects at one time during either day or evening hours. Students may enter the program at any time throughout the semester. The Academic Skills Center has been awarded a Certificate of Excellence by the California Department of Education. Adult Education Students 17 - 18 years of age:
  • Be referred by current home school administrator or counselor
  • Obtain transcripts from your home high school before contacting the adult school counselor.
  • Make appointment for an orientation at (805) 579-6200 ext. 1006.
  • Be accompanied by a parent/guardian at orientation. Enrollment forms will be completed at that time and the student will be given a schedule.
Adult Independent Study:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Reading assessment prior to enrollment.
  • Official transcript from previous high school.
  • Weekly, one-hour meeting with a teacher.
  • Minimum of 15 hours of homework is due each week.
Concurrent Students:
  • Obtain a concurrent enrollment form signed by current high school counselor stating the course title and number of credits authorized
  • Be accompanied by a parent/guardian when registering at the adult school
  • Take a 25-minute reading test on the day of enrollment
  • Class must be completed within three months of starting.

GED Testing
Elective/GED Testing (3487)(022212): (General Education Development).

Ged Testing Information

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Not a graduate of a U.S. high school
  • Photo identification must be presented at time of registration. Acceptable forms of ID are California driver’s license, California ID or passport with a current picture and proof of California residency.
  • Register in the Counseling Office (room 402) (see registration schedule)
  • There is no rescheduling or refunding of fees.
4-hour GED pretest is strongly recommended

GED Partial Test
Partial testing is for those who need to retake a portion of the GED. All those interested in partial testing must contact the school’s Chief Examiner, Gloria Hasson at 805.579.6232 for dates. GED Practice Test

GED/Basic Essay Writing
Don’t Freeze: Write Essays With Ease! This class provides strategies, techniques, and practical applications to help students prepare for the essay portion of the GED. It also focuses on the fundamental skills needed to write a basic 5-paragraph essay. Students will practice responding to essay prompts, brainstorming, planning, and pacing as they write an essay on an assigned topic.Click on schedule for test times, dates and fees.
