Homeland Security Career & Guard Card Certification
(3120)(0613061)(0613161)(0163261) Homeland security has captured national attention and is now the center of a growing source of new employment. Many homeland security jobs are entry-level positions with numerous federal and state agencies as well as in the private sector. Jobs in homeland security are plentiful, pay well, and offer job security.
The Simi Valley Adult School and Career Institute’s Homeland Security Career and Guard Card Certification Program prepares individuals for careers in homeland security, both in the public and private sectors. Successful graduates of the initial eight-hour Powers to Arrest will be eligible for entry-level positions in private security and loss prevention. Level I, Powers to Arrest training also serves as continuing education to meet January 1, 2005 California State guidelines. Forty-hour AB 2880 compliance training is available in modules of eight hours, at three progressive levels. The 32-hour class including level II & III qualify for ecertification. Class topics include: roles, responsibilities and career opportunities in homeland security, ethics and professional conduct of a security officer, relations with the local police, observation, patrol, report writing, authority to question, basis for making decisions, inspections, legal responsibilities and liabilities, factors to consider before making an arrest, arrestable offenses, private person’s arrest, making an arrest, searching the suspect, and terrorism awareness and prevention. With increased federal funding and worldwide attention, there has never been a better time to begin a career in homeland security. Completion of the course qualifies graduates for security guard card licensing (Powers-to-Arrest) and prepares new business owners to take the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services state-mandated exam. Preregistration required.
